1000’s of pieces was a sequel to Tied up in Knots. My starting points where based on plastic and wearable objects. My initial research was centred around bulbous and spherical shapes in relation to the body – create spherical shapes in plastic was challenging and limited my creativity. This led to the second stage of my project which was to look at making multiple components to create a wearable form.
At this point I began to investigate the use of laser cutting and using Adobe Illustrator as a form of drawing potential shapes. My design process changed notable at this point, with it becoming very reflective due to the nature of laser cutting. Designs began with lots of drawings, then experimenting with form and shape on laser cutter then only actually cutting a few of the possibilities.
My exploration into shape manipulation, and the edges that shapes can produce combined with carefully chosen plastic allowed me to create a 2 piece collection for my final degree show. The 1000’s of cut and carefully formed pieces embrace my design ethos that has developed over the last four years.
